Letter from the Board of Directors |
Dear ESA Member: The ESA has been through many changes over its 43 year history, and this year is no exception. One thing is certain, however. The ESA is alive and well, and this includes all ESA districts. As Mark Twain once said, "The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated." Well, the rumors of the demise of the ESA are not only greatly exaggerated, they are completely false. We have heard them all; that the ESA is bankrupt, going away, going out of business, etc. Actually, nothing could be farther from the truth.
In fact, the Eastern Surfing Association, along with the NSSA, are the only two major surfing organizations in the United States with a net worth over $150,000. Also, the ESA has no debt. As an IRS recognized non-profit organization, the ESA's tax returns are publicly available for those who wish to take a look. Unlike some other American surfing organizations that owe more than they are worth, the ESA is on strong financial ground and looking toward the future. Yes, there are a few directors who have decided to leave the organization and we wish them well in their future endeavors. However, in the districts where directors have left, there are enthusiastic and committed new volunteers stepping up. As they say, change is good. With the formation of a new Executive Committee, the ESA is moving quickly to become even more responsive to you, the members. So be proud to be part of the greatest organization in amateur surfing! We are 7,000 members strong and growing, and we look forward to providing all ESA athletes an exciting and event filled year at the District, Regional and Championship level. So, if you hear someone say the ESA won't be the same this year, they just may be right, because the ESA is committed to becoming even better! Here's to the next 43 years! See you in the water! ESA Executive Committee Tom Warnke, Chairman Debbie Hodges, Executive Director Mary Ann Mangiacapre, Competition Director Michael Angiulo, General Counsel Cecil Lear, Secretary/Historian Lester Priday, Northeast Regional Director Lisa Roselli, Southern New Jersey District Beth Schub, Central North Carolina District Jeff Mosley, Georgia District Cheryl Williams, Treasure Coast District |
