2008 PacSun USA Surf Team Named After Trials Display an Impressive Show of Talent Veterans and newcomers highlight a strong roster for America’s next international appearance
 Surfing America, the national governing body for surfing in the USA, is proud to announce the roster of the 2008 PacSun USA Surf Team after the USA Surf Team Trials concluded Sunday in two-to-four foot surf in Huntington Beach, CA. After qualifying for the Trials through the SIMA Surfing America USA Championships, sixty-three athletes were narrowed down to a squad of thirty-three which will begin training for the twelve competing spots at the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships this May in France.
“I feel really great about the team we selected,” said USA Surf Team Head Coach Joey Buran. “We have our team set and now it’s about training to compete against the best surfers in the world. I can promise that the twelve athletes that we’ll select to compete in France will be incredible surfers.”
Twenty of the thirty-three team spots came from the finalists in the trials and the Surfing America Selection Committee discussed with Buran to decide the remaining wildcard spots. This new-and-improved selection process insures that no worthy surfer was overlooked as well as provides depth throughout the roster for training and development purposes.
“There was complete unity amongst the Selection Committee. There were no discrepancies or disagreements. We discussed everything, talked through things and came to conclusions that we felt were right,” ensured Buran. “The right surfers stepped up to make our decisions easier. Some of the surfers were fatigued from surfing double divisions at the USA Championships but in the Trials kids worked through it and found something more that they didn’t have before. To see them deliver in the clutch and find another level in their surfing was amazing.”
